Abstract: Objective: To observe the image and clinical characteristics of the supernumerary teeth of the adolescents, and to elucidate the clinical application value of cone beam CT(CBCT) in the diagnosis of supernumerary teeth. Methods: A total of 146 adolescents with supernumerary teeth scanned by CBCT and comfirmed were selected. The patient's gender, supernumerary teeth localization, number, shape and the root resorption of adjacent teeth were retrospectively analyzed. The changes in the root resorption rates of adjacent teeth induced by different supernumerary teeth shapes were evaluated. Results: The proportion of men to women with supernumerary teeth in 146 patients was 1.98:1(97/49). Among them,95(65.07%) patients were single supernumerary teeth. There were 203 supernumerary teeth in the 146 patients;among them,132(65.02%)supernumerary teeth were conical,112(55.17%) supernumerary teeth were inverted, and 48(23.65%) supernumerary teeth were curved root. There was no statistically significant difference between the root resorption rates of adjacent teeth induced by the different shapes of supernumerary teeth(P>0.05).Conclusion: CBCT can show the localization, the number of supernumerary teeth and other image and clinical charactersistics, which can provide the important evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of supernumerary teeth.
