Influence of centrifugal casting conditions on microstructure and properties of Mg2Si/Al graded composites

Abstract:

The centrifugal casting technology was used to fabricate Mg2Si/Al graded composites with large quantities of primary Mg2Si particles in outer layer and expecially in inner layer. The influences of the rotation speed and the mold preheating temperature on microstructure and properties of inner layer were discussed. It is found that higher rotation speed results in larger particle volume fraction, higher hardness and better wear resistance for inner layer. While the influence of the mold preheating temperature on particle volume fraction and properties of inner layer is rather unconspicuous. Optimal value unconspicuaus has be achieved when the rotation speed is 1560 r/min and the mold preheating temperature is 300 ℃, unconspicuous while its wear rate is only one-thirtieth to one-fortieth of HT200 under the same dry sliding wear condition.
