Impact of driver's distracted driving time on vehicle lane departure

Abstract: To figure out the law of vehicle lane departure during distracted driving and to reduce the collisions caused by lane departure, twelve drivers participated in road driving test; and the vehicle movement states of 398 distracted driving samples were collected. The means, the variances and amplitudes of the lane departure distances were selected as the indicators to characterize the level of lane departure. The correlation test and the fitting analysis between the distracted driving time and the three indicators were carried out. By analysis of the variation of the three indicators during common driving and distracted driving, the relationship between distracted driving time and lane departure was derived. The results indicate that the lane departure during driving with distraction is larger than that without distraction. The lane departure increases with the distracted driving time, and it increases more and more quickly. When the distraction time exceeds 3.0 s, the vehicle lane departure rises rapidly in a short time.
