Release characteristics of separate dual left-turn lanes

Abstract: The release characteristic of the separate dual left-turn lanes on the signalized intersection was researched. Lane usage characteristics and saturation flow rate characteristics were analyzed using probability theory and mathematical statistics. Using video image processing technology, the space and space-time travel characteristics of separate left-turn vehicles were described and analyzed within the intersection. There was interference between the two flows that traveling within the intersection. The result of this investigation may provide a theoretical basis for the design of separate dual left-turn lanes and optimization of signal-timing.
