Influence of inertial mass on damping and amplitude-frequency characteristic of regenerative suspension

Abstract: A complicated regenerative damper model containing regenerative motor and its control model was established to investigate the influence of inertial mass on damping characteristic. Analyzed by structural vibration method, the suspension natural frequency equation and the transfer characteristics of sprung/unsprung mass to road excitation were obtained. Alter the ratio of inertial mass to unsprung mass and analyze its influence on amplitude-frequency characteristic of body acceleration、suspension deflection and wheel dynamic load. The results show that the resonance frequency of regenerative suspension is prior to conventional suspension and the main weakness of inertial mass influence is that it increases the transfer characteristic of higher resonance frequency, although has little improvement for lower resonance frequency. With higher excitation frequency, it affects the ride comfort while has little influence on safety.
