Non-linear analysis for a longspan cablestayed bridge under lateral wind loads

Abstract: A non-linear stability ananlysis was performed for the cable-stayed bridge subjected to the static wind load using the incremental double-iteration search method. The analysis considered the non-linear effect of the static wind load and the variation of the wind velocity along the height of the bridge structure, and a corresponding computing program was developed. Taking the Zhanjiang Haiwan Bridge as an example, the effects of the non-linearity of the static wind load and the spatial non-uniform distribution of the wind velocity on the critical static wind velocity against the stability of the cablestayed bridge was explored. The results show that the torsional deformation of the main girder and the static wind loads on the cable and the tower affect the stability of the cablestayed bridge against the static wind load significantly.
