Abstract:

Objective  To study the expressions of Musashi1 and sex determining re
gion Y-box 2 (Sox2) proteins in lung cancer, benign lesion lung and normal cancer
-adjacent lung tissues, and to explore the clinical significances of Musashi1 and Sox2 proteins in the carcinogenesis and progression of lung cancer.
Methods The expressions of Musashi1 and Sox2 proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry in 50 cases of lung cancer tissue,32 cases of benign lesion lung tissue and 18 cases of normal cancer-adjacent lung tissue. The relationships between the expressions of Musashi1 and Sox2 proteins and clinical pathological parameters were analyzed. Results  The positive rates of Musashi1 expression in lung cancer tissue, benign lesion lung tissue and normal cancer-adjacent lung tissue were 50% (25/50),0 (0/32),and 0 (0/18).The expression rate of Musashi1 in lung cancer tissue was significantly higher than those in benign lesion lung tissue and normal cancer-adjacent lung tissue (P<0.001).The expression of Musashi1 was significantly correlated with the histological types and differentiation of lung cancer(P<0.05),but was not correlated with the age, gender,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (P>0.05).The positive rates of Sox2 moderate to strong expression in lung cancer tissue, benign lesion lung tissue and normal cancer-adjacent lung tissue were 64% (32/50),9.4% (3/32),and 0 (0/18). The expression rate of Sox2 in lung cancer tissue was significantly higher than those in benign lesion lung tissue and normal cancer-adjacent lung tissue (P<0.001).The expression of Sox2 was significantly correlated with the histological type of lung cancer(P<0.001),but was not correlated with the age, gender,TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and differentiation (P>0.05).The expression of Musashi1 in lung cancer tissue was positively correlated with the expression of Sox2 (r=0.598,P<0.001).Conclusion The up-regulation of Musashi1 and Sox2 in lung cancer tissue suggests that they may play crucial role in the process of carcinogenesis and progression of lung cancer.Musashi1 and Sox2 may be used as the potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets in lung cancer.
