Abstract: Objective To discuss the significance of VCE smear and the Beth esda 2001 report system in screening of cervical carcinoma. Methods 3056 healthy examination population were examined for cervical-vaginal cytology by VCE smear and the Bethesda 2001 report system. All of the cases were biopsied by coloscopy including atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance(ASC-US), squamous intraepithelial lesions and carcinoma(SIL+).Results 66 cases of SIL+ were found in cervical-vaginal cytology (2.15%), including 17 cases of atypical squamous cells with undetermined significance(ASC-US) (25.76%), 4 cases of atypical squamous cells, didn't exclude HSIL(ASC-H)(6.06%), 28 cases of low-grade SIL(LSIL)(42.42%), 14 cases of high-grade SIL(HSIL)(21.21%), 3 cases of squamous cervical carcinoma(SCC)(4.55%). In 66 cases of cervical-vaginal cytology positive results, 60 cases of CIN I+ were confirmed by biopsy pathology, including 35 cases of CIN Ⅰ(53.03%), 12 cases of CIN Ⅱ(18.18%), 7 cases of CIN Ⅲ(10.61%). Conclusion VCE smear and the Bethesda 2001 report system can get cells conveniently and the results are more correct. The coincidence of the examination of cervical-vaginal cytology and pathology is 90.91%. VCE smear and the Bethesda 2001 report system has great significance in screening of cervical carcinoma.
