Abstract:
Abstract:Objective To study the iron metabolism and iron nutrition state in obesity rats, and to provide the evidence for the prevention and control of iron malnutrition induced by obesity. Methods 27 male Wistar rats were divided into control group (n=10)and obesity group (n=17),the rats were fed with ordinary feed, high fat diet, respectively for 12 weeks, then they were killed by taking the eye blood. The hemoglobin, red cell count, hematocrit, serum iron, total iron binding capacity, serum transferrin saturation, hepcidin, transferring and ferritin of rats were determined. Results Compared with control group, the red cell count and hematocrit value in obesity group were increased, the hemoglobin content was decreased,in which the red blood cell number compared with control group showed significant differences(P<0.05).The serum iron, iron saturation values in obesity group were lower, the serum total iron binding capacity was increased, including serum iron, the iron saturation value compared with control group showed significant differences(P<0.05).The ferritin, transferrin and hepcidin values in obesity group were reduced.Wherein, the hepcidin and ferritin values compared with control group had significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusion Obesity can lead to iron malnutrition and the changes of iron metabolism indices. The obesity subjects should pay attention to iron deficiency.
