Equivalent mechanical model for liquid sloshing in partially-filled tank vehicle

Abstract:

A trammel pendulum model to simulate liquid sloshing in tanks with circular and oval cross-sections is developed. Motion equations of the trammel pendulum in inertial coordinate system, non-inertial coordinate system, and in a coordinate system that moves in a complex way are derived. In the inertial coordinate system, the motion equation of trammel pendulum is numerically solved. The angular position, angular velocity and hunting frequency of the pendulum are analyzed. It is found that a linear trammel pendulum model can be used to simulate liquid sloshing in partially-filled tank vehicles. This research can provide theoretical basis and actual assistance to investigate the performance, driving stability and auxiliary driving technology of tank vehicles.
