Impact of roadside landscape color on driver mean heart rate

Abstract: Vehicular experiments were conducted on Chang-Yan expressway to collect the required data. Using mean RGB of landscape and drive time as independent variables, mean heart rate(MHR) as dependent variable, the function between the three variables were developed based on trend surface analysis method. Then sensitive analyses of the two independent variables were conducted based on single factor method. The results show that mean RGB color is negative correlated with MHR, and with the increase of color brightness, the fatigue level of the driver decreases. Drive time is positive correlated with MHR, and with the increase of drive time, the MHR also increases, which indicates that the driver becomes more fatigue. The results also show that MHR is more sensitive to drive time than to landscape color.
