Optimizing skip-stop operation of bus transit based on analysis of travel time

Abstract: For the problem that the decline in operating efficiency caused by excess demand of stopping stations, the optimization model was developed using Genetic Algorithm that coordinated the stopping stations for skip-stop operation based on the analysis of passengers' travel time impacted by skip-stop operation. The objective function was minimizing the total travel time of the entire users in this model. Then, one bus line of Hangzhou was used as an example for this research. An optimal scenario was obtained with this model. The results show that passengers' total travel time with skip-stop operation became 8.43% shorter than that with original all-stop operation.
