Cyclist injury in collision between car and electric bicycle

Abstract:

Based on the data of collision accident between car and electric bicycle obtained by CIDAS, the cyclist injury mechanism and the causes are studied. The THUMS biomechanical dummy is used to represent the cyclist in the accident. Comparison of the simulation results with real accident data shows that the method is reliable. Analysis suggests that the probability of serious leg injury is higher than other body part injury in the collision accident. The structure of the frontier of the engine cabin is the key parts to reduce the leg injury. The simulation results can provide valuable reference for designing safety regulation and new car development.
