Abstract:

Objective: To detect the expression levels of microRNA-34a(miR-34a) in gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) tissue and adjacent tissue, and to clarify its correlation with the pathological characteristics of GSCC patients, including tumor size, malignancy degree, age, gender, tumor site and lymph node metastasis. Methods: The tissue samples including 30 GSCC tissues and matched carcinoma adjacent tissues were selected. The expression levels of miR-34a in GSCC tissue and carcinoma adjacent tissue were detected by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR(qRT-PCR) method. The relationship between its expresion level and the clinicopathological characteristics of GSCC patients were analyzed. Results: Compared with carcinoma adjacent tissue, the expression level of miR-34a in GSCC tissue was significantly decreased (t=3.03,P=0.004).The expression level of miR-34a in GSCC tissue had no relationship with the age, gender, and lymph node metastasis of the patients(P>0.05),but had relationship with the tumor size and tumor malignancy degree (P<0.05).Conclusion: The expression level of miR-34a is down-regulated significantly in GSCC tissue. The detection of the expression level of miR-34a contributes to judge the histological subtype.
