Algorithm of image segmentation based on the improved pulse coupled neural network model

Abstract: An improved Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) model was proposed, where the linking matrix was optimized with Receptive Field (RF) model. The PCNN model possesses both directionality and scales, and can simulate the segmentation function of visual cells more efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the RF-PCNN model in segmenting vehicle images and segmentation results have high boundary detection rate. The problems of under-segmentation and over-segmentation in vehicle plate region are well solved.
