Control method for electric power steering to reduce impact torque on steering wheel

Abstract:

When a vehicle passes over a bump or a rough road, the impact torque on the steering wheel will be produced. Over large impact torque will bring unpleasant to the driver. The impact torque on the pinion gear is estimated based on the established dynamic model of Electric Power Steering (EPS). Then, the compensation current of disturbance from the road wheels is determined by a control algorithm to reduce the impact torque on the steering wheel. The vehicle test results show that the control algorithm can effectively reduce the impact torque on the steering wheel without increasing elements of the EPS system and it has potential application value.
