Wear resistance of (Mg2Si+SiCp)/ Mg composites

Abstract:

A study on the abrasive wear behaviors of pure Mg and (Mg2Si+SiCp)/Mg composites in the conditions of different loads and abrasive sizes has been presented. Their worn surfaces have been observed by SEM and extracted technology. The results show that the wear resistance of (Mg2Si+SiCp)/Mg composites is much higher than that of pure Mg, because the firm Mg2Si and SiCp reinforced phases could restrain the occurring of plastic deformation, enhancing the ability of wear resistance. The wear resistance of (Mg2Si+SiCp)/Mg composites increases with increasing the content of SiC particle. After hot-extrusion, (Mg2Si+SiCp)/Mg composites exhibits the better wear resistance. And the failure mechanism of (Mg2Si+SiCp)/ Mg composites mainly is abrasive wear.
