Flow characteristics in diesel helical intake port bionic with non-smooth surface

Abstract: To enhance the Swirl intensity of the diesel engine with semi-open combustion chamber, bionic non-smooth elements of pit, convexity, U-shaped groove and V-shaped grooves are used on the inside surface of diesel helical intake port. CFD numerical simulation of the flow in the diesel helical intake port with bionic non-smooth surface was conducted using CATIA, Hypermesh and Fluent. The Flow Coefficient and Swirl Ratio on non-smooth surface with four elements and on smooth surface were compared. It is shown that with little change in the Flow Coefficient, the Swirl Intensity is significantly enhanced by the non-smooth surface.
