Wear resistance of Mg2Si/Al gradient composites

Abstract:

Dry sliding wear behaviors of HT200, unmodified and modified Mg2Si/Al gradient composites against 45 steel under conditions of different loads and sliding speeds have been investigated. The worn surfaces have been analyzed using SEM and EDS techniques. The results show that the modified composite is superior in wear resistance to the unmodified one, because the fined, round and uniformly distributed primary reinforced phase particles of Mg2Si  can exert strong load bearing effect, suppress plastic deformation and consequently enhance the adhesive wear resistance. The conjugate friction pair of HT200 and 45 steel exhibits severer wear, whereas the Mg2Si/Al  gradient composites have much batter wear resistance than HT200 because of existence of reinforced particles. The wear mechanisms of Mg2Si/Al  gradient composites are mainly adhesive wear and abrasive wear.
