Abstract:Objective To examine the basic situation,sexual behaviors,syphilis infection and their changing trends among the sex workers in the Chinese mainland during 2010—2012 by Meta-analysis.Methods All published academic papers from CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,and Medline(PubMed) databases on syphilis infection among sex workers in the Chinese mainland  from 2010 to 2012 were searched.Meta-analysis was performed by Stata 11.0 software.Results Sixty five studies were selected.From  2010 to 2012   the pooled infection rate of syphilis among the sex workers in the Chinese mainland  was 4.7%(95% CI,4.2%－5.3%);the pooled infection rate of syphilis increased year by year from 2010 to 2012,rising from 4.4% in 2010 year (95% CI,3.6% －5.1%) to 8.6% in 2012 year (95% CI,6.6%－10.7%);the pooled infection rate of syphilis in the eastern of China was the highest in all analysis,up to 7.0% (95% CI,5.7%－8.4%);the pooled rate of condom use in the last sex with clients was 82.0%(95% CI,79.7%－84.4%);the pooled rate of always condom use with clients in the last month was 57.5%(95% CI,52.6%－62.5%);the pooled rate of sometimes condom use with clients in the last month was 35.8%(95% CI,29.6%－42.1%);the pooled rate of never condom use with clients in the last month was 6.0%(95% CI,5.1%－6.9%).Conclusion High syphilis infection rate among the sex workers in the Chinese mainland  during 2010—2012 shows upword tendency,especially in the eastern of China.The rate of condom use in the last sex with clients is high and the rate of always condom use with clients in the last month is relatively lower.
