Lightweight design of TRB dashboard cross beam

Abstract: Based on the need of lightweight and technological requirements, this paper proposes two optimal schemes for dashboard cross beam design, including three segments and five segments. These design schemes can replace the original structure design of uniform thickness. By comparing the simulation results of low order frequencies, vertical bumping, brake force and Passenger Air Bag (PAB) expanding conditions, it is verified that Tailor Rolled Blank (TRB) can reduced can reduce the weight greatly as well as guarantee the performance of the dashboard cross beam. Designers can apply the appropriate TRB scheme to the design of automobile structure with lightweight target.
