New planar locomotive device using bimorph

Abstract: A new type of the PZT driving device to realize the planar movement by using the bimorph oscillator as the driver was presented. The performance characteristic of the driving device was introduced and its working mechanism was discussed. It was revealed that the device realized the directional movement by controlling the difference between the driving force of device leg and the friction force of interfaces. An experimental device of PZT locomotive carrying platform was developed and the tests were performed. Results proved that the device is really able to move directionally with allowable load under control of appropriately designed electric circuit.
